Summer learning journey review

The activity I enjoyed the most was the sports week especially the choice activity at the end of the week I did Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill.  I also really enjoyed learning about Yusra Mardini.  I find it amazing that she swam for her life as I can't imagine doing that.

The activity I least enjoyed was the music one as I'm not really into music.  So I found it difficult to choose an activity for that day.

The first thing I learnt was that for the second time ever there will be a refugee team competing at the Tokyo Olympics and hopefully Yusra Mardini will make the team.  I will be following her progresse.  The Second thing I learnt was trying to make sure my ideas and sentences were in a logical order so my readers could understand what I was trying to say.  The third thing I learnt was how to write a diary.  I found some ¨my¨ story books in the book case at home.

I personally think that there shouldn't be any changes and I really enjoyed this years summer learning journey.  I enjoyed receiving comments to my blogs and being able to share more of my ideas.  I definitely want to do the Summer learning journey next year.

Two arty pictures

For the Summer learning journey today we had to choose two pictures from this Link and show what is simuller and what is different.

One similarity is that they both have animals.  They both have patches of lots of colors.  Both pieces of art are outside.  There both on fences.

A difference is that the Bird one is based in the hills and the Cat one isn't.  One picture is about cats and the other is about birds.  Ones got a hot air balloon and the other doesn't.  In the painting one has trees round it the other one  doesn't.

Out of these two pictures which one is your favourite? My one is the cat one because I love cats.

Oprah Winfrey was  born on January 29th 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi.  Oprah Winfrey started her own school in South Africa called Oprah Winfrey Leadership School for Girls.  She wants to provide young people with opportunities to follow their passions.

When Oprah was still young her mother moved to Milwaukee Wisconsin to find a job.  Oprah stayed in Mississippi and lived with her grandmother.  Oprah lived on a farm without running water.  When Oprah turned six, she moved to Wisconsin to live with her mum.

What do you think you will do when you have finished high school will you do some more study or do work straight away? I want to go to University and study sport and then be a sports player and be a professional player.  Right now I can't decide if I want to study Squash or hockey at University.

What do you think you will do when you have finished high school do you think you will do some more study or do you think you will work straight away?

Bangtan Boys

The Bangtan Boys were the first korean pop band to present at the grammy awards.  They have to practice a lot so they have to keep their promise to turn up to every practice.  In concerts the Bangtan Boys come in five separate cars.  Bangtan boys came together in 2013 and took their name from the Korean expression Bangtan Sonyeondan, which translates to Bulletproof Boy Scouts.

I really like there dance moves and there music.  There latest music was called Love yourself.   I found this fact really interesting that Fans of the Bangtan Boys get really excited they pay to put posters up.  I also found out that they make up there music in a studio in there house.  I think that is cool that they have a studio in there house.

How many Bangtan Boys are there in the band? there are seven of them.  There names are Kim Nam Joon ( the leader of the band), Jeon Jeong-guk, Kim Seok Jin, Min Yoon Gi, Jung Ho Seok,Park Ji Min and Kim Tae Hyung.

Kim Nam Joon said in one of his speeches ¨no matter who you are, what gender you are, what your skin colour is speak for yourself.¨

Dear diary

Wednesday 1st of January 2020

Dear Diary,

Happy New Year. Today Mum, Luke and I went to Orana park.  First we saw the Siamang Gibbon they were running and jumping across the ropes.  Then we saw the painted dogs two of the Keepers came along and were throwing pieces of meat as they were trying to look at one of the dogs legs.  Once we finished looking at the painted dogs we saw the Orangutans they were still sleepy, but the Gorilla's weren't they were eating there breakfast.

We saw other animals and moved to my favourite animal the Giraffes, today I was lucky enough to feed them.  The giraffe I fed sucked up the leaves of the branch it was like playing tug of war with a giraffe.  I got to see the new giraffe that came from Australia in December.

Luke, mum and I were hungry so we sat and ate our picnic lunch.  As we were having lunch Luke started laughing because he saw a big Pukeko running round trying to get food, there was another family near us one of their children dropped there bread roll and the Pukeko sprinted and grabbed it. Then it ran with the bread roll in its mouth over the footbridge and took it to his Pukeko family in the Bison enclosure.  It was very funny Mum, Luke and I couldn't stop laughing.

Then we saw the Spider monkeys getting fed. They are so clever with how they use their tails. One of them used their tail to hang on the rope.  They were getting fed vegetables and fruit.

Then we moved to the kiwis enclosure I didn't know how big the kiwi egg was.  One of the keepers was showing us how big a kiwi egg, a hen egg and an Emu egg looks like.  We got to look at the kiwis getting fed as well.

Luke kept pestering mum about what the time was because he really wanted to watch the Tasmanian Devils get fed.  So we watched them get fed rabbit.  I didn't like that because I like rabbits.  The keepers decided to put the sprinkler on but one of the Tasmanian Devils didn't like it so it ran into one of its huts and the other Tasmanian Devil ate his part of the rabbit.  Then he attacked the bucket which the keeper had in his hand.

Because it was so hot Mum decided to get us Ice cream's so we ate them while going back to the Orangutans and the Gorillas. They also had Ice blocks but the Gorillas had smashed there Ice block to pieces.  The Orangutans were trying to stuff bits of there bed in to there ice block.  It was extremely funny.

Then it was time to go home.  What a fun day.

When we got home I was still hot so asked Luke to put my water slide out in the back yard.  It was a great way to cool down.  I looked up and saw the orange sun I ran inside to get mum.  We didn't know what was going on but on the news tonight we learnt that it was smoke from the Australian bush fires.  It was a bit scary.

Shakespeare

This morning I got up early and had breakfast.  Then my friend across the road and her dad came and picked me up with my bike and my scooter we went to Washington Way skatepark.  I had never been there before so we both challenged ourselves to go higher up the bowl and to do some cool tricks. I had a really good time and can't wait to go again.

Squash

My favourite game is Squash, Squash is a sports game.  I've been playing Squash for a year and a half (18 months).  This is what my squash racket looks like.  This what Squash glasses look like.
I train two times a week Tuesday and Wednesday I also have Interclub on Mondays.  For Interclub you could play anywhere in Christchurch. My club is called Christchurch club its in Cashmere. there are lots of different colors for Squash but I play with a blue dot.  This is what the blue dot looks like.
How do you play Squash? First of all you need is a Squash ball, a racket, non marking shoes and the most important Squash glasses.  The person who is going to serve goes into one of the  service box of the T and the person who is returning should stand 1 big step away from the corner of the Service box on the other side and get ready to hit a good shot if you get it up you keep playing until someone hits the tin or if it goes out.  Here is a picture of a Squash court and the parts of a Squash court.

I started playing Squash because I was watching 2018 Commonwealth Games on TV and came across squash.  If you want to play another game I think you should give Squash a go.  I love playing squash!!!

Doctor Lance O'Sullivan

Doctor Lance O'Sullivan is a Maori Doctor who lives in Kaitaia, Northland.  In 2014 he was named New Zealander of the year for improving the health and well being of patients and local community.  He set up the first full time health school in Northland.

While learning about how to stay healthy I found these Five easy things 10 year olds can do each day: Eat at least one peace of fruit a day, eat lots of vegetables, get eleven hours of sleep, drink 1.5 Litres or about 7 glasses of water a day and have at least an hour of vigorous activity a day and no more than two hours of screen time (including television) a day.

Children and teenagers who regularly drink soft drinks and other sweetened drinks are more likely to be overweight.  From 2 years of age children should drink reduced fat milk. It contains much the same nutrients as full cream milk but is lower in unhealthy saturated fats and lower in energy.

To stay healthy I play hockey and Squash so I have to go to trainings and games.  I also enjoy going for runs walks and swimming.  One of my favourite things is going for bike rides with my family and friends.
