Ice cream

Today's task was to write about what your favourite ice cream and what your least favourite ice cream is.

My favourite ice cream is orange and chocolate chip because I like how they sprinkle the chocolate round the ice cream so there's no big chunk of chocolate in it. I also like the taste of the orange in it. If I had to rate the orange chocolate chip ice cream I would give it a 10 out of 10.

My least favourite Ice cream is mint and chocolate chip the first reason is because I find it to minty. I also don't really like the mix of chocolate and mint together. If I had to rate the mint chocolate chip I would give a 6 out of 10.

My favourite Ice cream shop is the Lyttelton shop because while you are eating it you can see the harbour then you can watch the ships come in.  I think the best view to see the ships while eating your  ice cream is by the little park near the Ice cream shop.

My favourite ice block is the jelly tip Ice block. Because I like the jelly at the top and then there's Ice cream at the bottom of it and it's covered with chocolate.  If I had to rate this ice block I would give it a 9 out of 10.

If I had to choose out of orange chocolate chip and jelly tip ice block I would probably choose orange chocolate chip.

What's your favourite Ice cream and what's your least favourite ice cream?

Tyrannosaurus Rex

Today's task was to write about dinosaurs so I chose the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Did you know that Tyrannosaurus Rex were twice as tall as elephants. The Tyrannosaurus rex live about 68 million years ago.

They are over 12 meters ( 39 foot tall). Tyrannosaurus were really fast they could move at 16-48 km/h.The Tyrannosaurus Rex have two very powerful legs and two small arms.  They had really big feet which would help them walk or run long distances.

Tyrannosaurus deadly jaws could deliver bone crushing bite far more powerful than any modern day animals. The Tyrannosaurus Rex had 50 teeth as big as bananas. Tyrannosaurus Rex are meat eating animals.

Tyrannosaurus Rex were Carnivores they would hunt and take food off other dinosaurs.  The Tyrannosaurus Rex was first discovered in 1902 and was named in 1905. Large Tyrannosaurus Rex bite marks have been found in other dinosaurs fossils. Tyrannosaurus Rex fossils have been found in USA and Mongolia.

Barnum Brown found hundreds of dinosaurs bones while working for the American Museum of  Natural history in New York.  He was born in 1873 and he died in 1963. He found the first and third Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons.

Lockdown at my house

While we've been in lockdown I have been playing outside. Some of the things I have been doing are riding my bike, playing swingball with my Mum and Dad, playing basketball when my brothers have free time. My Dad also found my brothers old slot car set so I've been playing with that as well. I have also been making a Meccano car this belongs to my eldest brother. It is remote control so I can't wait to drive it.

We have also been watching mass in the dining room which is very different than walking down to church. Last Friday we watched stations of the cross that involved walking down the hall to get to the dining room to watch Stations of the cross.

Each week Scouts New Zealand are sending through three challenges for the week. One of the scout challenges was to make something in the kitchen. So Mum and I made Rhubarb crumble for pudding last night. Today's challenge is to make a shelter. I think I will have to do it inside today because its pouring with rain.

We have been playing family board games after lunch each day. So far we have played Monopoly, Catan, Tri-ominos. Today we are going to play Monopoly. Mum and I have also been playing cards.

I have been reading a Kids national geographic I have finished reading Wombat Chronicles. I am reading Lost wonders vanished creatures of Aotearoa. This book is about extinct birds of New Zealand and people finding their fossils.I have also been reading the school journals. I have been doing a kids stuff quiz every day. I also have been listening to David walliams read a chapter of One of the worlds worst children series each morning.

The Jolliest Jolly Jar

This term, our Project Based Learning (PBL) started with the teachers putting us into groups. In these groups we had to work collaboratively to create Jolly Jars for the school fair. This task helped us to begin exploring our PBL question for the term - How can we build community through our actions? We had to research ideas, be creative with our product, experiment with our materials and write instructions that could be followed by others.

Green is me. Black is what the teachers set up for me.
Here is a Link to my instructions.

I learnt that instructions need to have capitals and at the start by having a doing word. You also have to write steps.

Reflection on PBL:
For our Jolly Jar my group did sock puppets.

I contributed to my group by bringing in materials, by thinking of the idea, by bringing jars in, by making a sock puppet, by helping other people in my group by helping make labels and by creating my jar with glitter and tissue paper. I also helped sell them at the school fair.

Our Jolly Jar was creative because we thought that little children would enjoy it.

What I learned about working with others was that we had to all agree about what our ideas were and what we did.
Here is my group

Do you like our idea of sock puppets in a jar?
