Lets save the world!!!

Lets save the world

On Wednesday Erica came and talked about the environment. So she talked about how to save the world. She has been making reusable coffee cups. She has also started to use paper bags and string that go into the green bin.

Did you know that if you throw stuff into the red bin it never brakes up. If it goes in the green bin it will brake up and it will sink in to the world. yellow bin it brakes up but it takes about four hundred years to brake up completely. But if it is in the green it can sink into the world or can be reused for different things.

The other day we had Beth's dad Glen come in and talked about how he helps save the environment. He works for a company that works at lots of the cricket pitches and rugby fields and lots of other places. He said he is using plastic cups but the ones that you can reuse about one thousand times. They are going to all the rugby pitches and cricket pitches and hockey fields and concerts.

How are you going to help stop the environment?

High lights of the big hockey game

                                                       The big game

On Saturday I played my first game of hockey for the season. We played Avon they were a very speedy team. The whistle blows to start the game Avon started. They passed the ball back I went up to tackle a guy runs up to me this was my chance to tackle but he weaves past me and my team mates he scores a fantastic goal. After a while they score again and again. We got the ball I run up the side line and goes into the circle but they tackled me and scored a goal.

At half time they were in the lead nine to zero but we were all having a really fun time. It was time for the second half. We got to start this time. we passed the ball backwards and try to run throw the little gap in between the players and get to there keeper I try smack it past the keeper but he saves it. After a while they score again. After the goal I got the ball and ran up the side line and passed it to my team mate and he had a shot at the keeper but the keeper saved it.

So they got a sixteen that means that they hit from the top of the semi circle. They decide to run up the side line and took a shot at our goal keeper our goal keeper did a amazing save it went over the post. Next they come running up the side line again but this time it was on my side so I tackled the ball and got it and ran back up the field and take another shot but he saved. Their defender smacked it up the field right to their striker and their striker sails it passed our keeper.

Then the whistle blows for full time and we go shake hands. It was now time to see who got player of the day so we gathered round and the coach said that I was the player of the day. The end of game score was thirteen zero to Avon . My favourite sport is hockey if you played sport when you were younger what was your favourite sport?

Holy Thursday mass

On Thursday night my whole family went to mass. My brother was serving and I was getting one of my feet washed because the Gospel was about the last supper and Jesus washing his disciples feet so twelve people were getting their feet washed. So after the Gospel and the homily we were getting our feet washed.

I was the eighth person to get my foot washed.Father Tien washed my foot and then dried my feet and kissed my foot. Father Tien washed my foot in a bowl up the front just by the alter while he was washing my foot I had to sit on a chair. After that I had to go back to my seat and wait while the others were getting their feet washed.

It felt a bit different having Father Tien wash my foot so it made me wonder how the disciples felt when they had their feet washed by Jesus. How do you think the disciples felt?

Going to Lyttelton and trams

On Wednesday Madison her Grandpa and I walked to the bus stop on Kensington Ave we rode to the bus exchange then caught another bus to Lyttelton and got ice creams. I got a banana chocolate chip ice cream Madison got a boysenberry ice cream and her Grandpa got a orange chocolate chip ice cream. My one was delicious.

We took our ice creams to the park and played there. After we had finished we went to the library at Lyttelton to see when the bus arrived.  Madison's Grandpa said we could look at some of the books there then we had to go. We walked down the steep road to the bus stop. We looked down and saw a huge ship leaving. We could also  see the bus coming up the hill to get us. We went through the big tunnel to get back to the bus exchange.

From the bus exchange we walked to the Hoytes to get something to eat for lunch we were busy deciding if we wanted pizza or sushi but we chose pizza. I chose a pizza called mamamia Madison chose to make her own and her Grandpa decided to get a hawaiian pizza. After a while our pizzas came out of the oven we sat down and gobbled them down they were fabulous pizzas.

After we had our Pizzas we went to the Trams and had a look around the city. We saw the Avon river and the broken down cathedral and the new library. We had a really fun time. My favourite part was going to Lyttelton and having the ice creams.

If you had a journey like this, what part do you think you would like the best?

Awesome facts about South sudan

here is my south sudan information report that we had to do I hope you enjoy.
South sudan
South sudan is a violent place. South sudan has been through many civil wars. Read to find out more about south sudan.

south sudan is in south africa. South sudan is the newest country in South africa. People coming from what is now Egypt began to settle in the area about 1,000 years ago.In south sudan there is a rainy season and a dry season. In south sudan there is more than 16,00 children as young as 8 years old forced to be  soldiers in south sudan that is against the law !.There are lots of cities around south sudan some people call it a locked in citie.

South sudan has very little food so other countries need to help our south sudan friends and give them more food more water and more money. They are a very poor country but they are very rich with oil.200,000 people live in poc camps sixty one percent of them that live in poc camps are children. Those camps had mostly 70 percent of people but now  there is no longer that much people in the pocs only about 30 percent but that is still a lot of people. If they see someone they know at the camps they would ask if they know about their own houses. Most of their houses are made out of mud.New zealand's mud is much different than south sudan's mud.

South sudan civil war South sudan has been through a lot  of civil wars with north sudan. .People in South sudan have left their homes because it was not safe where they were living so they had to move to a cop camp .When South sudan was in war north sudan kept stelling all their animals like goats donkeys and

South sudan schools In south sudan's school you have decks and there's five people to a desk. But in New zealand we have tables and one to a seat. After eight years of primary school very few students go to high school. Lots of people go to high school round 10 to 12 years of primary school.

I hope you learned about south sudan New zealand is much lucker than South sudan so do not complain that you are not lucky there's always someone more worse than you.

Would you rather be in New zealand or South Sudan?

The best games with Benjamin, Lily f,Zach,Jasper and Hayun,

PBL - Term 1

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was: How can we build community through our actions?

First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was free and would make others happy.

We created an action plan and had to write a couple of things we should do and then we kind of had a little vote. Some of the games for the seniors were going to be hockey, touch rugby, Netball,Tee ball and dodge ball.

Reflection:
For our final product, our group did a treasure hunt for the juniors as well as, a game of Netball and touch rugby.

How did our action build a sense of community in the school? We got to know more people and spend time with them.

I contributed by helping to write the clues, and then hiding them, then all of the helpers were put with two Juniors so they did not get lost.

I think the PBL might impact on others, by getting to meet other people in the school, who aren't in your hub.

What I learned about working with others, was that we needed to do our little bit and that not just one person does everything as that is not fear. We all worked well as a group and had fun with the Juniors and the seniors.
