Bridge challenge

Hello today I did the bridge challenge here is my video of my creation and how many stones it held.

If you made a creation what would it look like?

  1. Hey Benjamin!

My name is Ruby. I'm a volunteer commenter from SLJ. This is a great video you have made - you speak really clearly in it and positioned the camera well so that we can see your creation in full view!

What a cool challenge. I am impressed that you made a structure that is able to support those five rocks! It's amazing how physics works, isn't it? Did you manage to balance any more another time or was this the maximum that it could hold out of all of your attempts> I'm also curious about where and how you space the rocks out across the structure when you are trying to balance them changes how many you are able to stack before it falls.

Did you come up with the design for this bridge yourself, or was it from an online template? Do you think you will try and build another bridge that holds more rocks? If so, I'd be keen to see another post on it to see your developments and your thinking process in regards to some of these questions!

Keep up the great mahi, Benjamin.

    Merry Christmas,
    Ruby

    1. Hello Ruby,

I tried the test before I filmed it and I got 8 rocks on. I came up with the design I used tripods because they are the strongest pillars. I think I will try to make another bridge and see if more rocks fit on.

It is me Quein again, a blog commenter for the Manaiakalani Summer Learning Journey. Ka mau te wehi! It looks amazing!! I was very impressed with your work in your blog posts. You spoke very clearly and explained things very well. I can see that you have put a lot of effort into your work and it is Great to see that you have applied a scientific mindset and approach to this experiment. I really enjoyed that you tested the strength of your bridge (stress test) by adding a stone until it was no longer stable.

Did you know that the oldest bridge in the world that is still used is a slab-stone single-arch bridge over the river Meles in Izmir in Turkey, which dates from c. 850 BCE.

What do you think that you could change or use to strengthen the bridge?

Excellent work!!! I have marked this post as outstanding which means you will get some extra points as I am very impressed with the structure, focus and delivery of your video presentations.

Keep up the Amazing work!!! I am really looking forward to your next post.

    Ngā mihi,
    Quein
