The best Math board ever

This is what my hub has been doing this week. We have been doing Math boards.

This one of the math boards that I have made. So what happens is you get given a question and this is how I sometimes figure it out is this way. You can do any equations you like with Math boards. My friends and I sometimes call them math cubes sliced in quarters.

Here is another one of my math boards/ math cubes sliced in quarters.
Does your school do Math boards?

The floating boat

On Pbl we did a boat we could use paper, straws, plastic cups, foil, and tape. The record in Tumu hub is 141 marbles and it had paper at the bottom and the cups were at the top. You had to try get as many marbles in your boat as you can as I said earlier the record is 141 and the boat did not rip at all not even the wet paper did not even ripp a little bit. my boat got 14 marbles. What we could have done better was that we should have used more cups than paper and straws and we needed to make more stable.

If you made a floating boat out of these materials what would your floating boat look like and how many marbles do you think you could put in the floating boat?

Endangered species

Endangered species

  What is a kakapo?

A kakapo is a bird that is very endangered. The only place they are found is in New Zealand. The parts in New zealand they are found are stewart Island  and mostly all the kakapo are found in the South Island.

What kakapo looks like.

Kakapo are birds that can't fly. They have black and green feathers and have a hairy face and with their beak is grey and almost on the top look like nostrils They have cute black eyes. They look very fluffy and they are really cute.

Facts about kakapo

There are only 148 kakapo in New zealand
They came here with a host of predators like dogs, cats, weasels and rats.
Kakapos have strong smell that the predators can smell them easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Males don’t take care of their babies and that leaves the females to take care of them.
When the opossums ate all the food the Kakapos has nothing to eat.
The kakapo are super climbers they climb with just their feet

Are kakapo endangered?

Kakapo are very endangered there are only 148 left in NZ  which is extremely sad.

Benjamins best ideas for Ice caps

My reading follow up this week
This is the link for our follow up What Is a Polar Ice Cap?

The new ideas I have now I’ve read this text are:

  • Put more trees round the place when we use more buildings.
  • STOP USING PLASTIC
  •   Give everyone free solar panels
  • Stop using cars so much we could just use horses and donkeys
  • Give every one electric cars
  • Give everybody solar powered cars

What do I understand better? that the polar ice caps 9 percent every 10 years
it might not sound so much but it is a lot of ice. Before 5 to ten years we need to make
a change and quickly. That means that Antarctica is melting and the polar bears are starting
to suffer because of us. They are suffering by losing their homes and we need to stop.

What do you think you could do to help?

Lets save the world!!!

Lets save the world

On Wednesday Erica came and talked about the environment. So she talked about how to save the world. She has been making reusable coffee cups. She has also started to use paper bags and string that go into the green bin.

Did you know that if you throw stuff into the red bin it never brakes up. If it goes in the green bin it will brake up and it will sink in to the world. yellow bin it brakes up but it takes about four hundred years to brake up completely. But if it is in the green it can sink into the world or can be reused for different things.

The other day we had Beth's dad Glen come in and talked about how he helps save the environment. He works for a company that works at lots of the cricket pitches and rugby fields and lots of other places. He said he is using plastic cups but the ones that you can reuse about one thousand times. They are going to all the rugby pitches and cricket pitches and hockey fields and concerts.

How are you going to help stop the environment?

High lights of the big hockey game

                                                       The big game

On Saturday I played my first game of hockey for the season. We played Avon they were a very speedy team. The whistle blows to start the game Avon started. They passed the ball back I went up to tackle a guy runs up to me this was my chance to tackle but he weaves past me and my team mates he scores a fantastic goal. After a while they score again and again. We got the ball I run up the side line and goes into the circle but they tackled me and scored a goal.

At half time they were in the lead nine to zero but we were all having a really fun time. It was time for the second half. We got to start this time. we passed the ball backwards and try to run throw the little gap in between the players and get to there keeper I try smack it past the keeper but he saves it. After a while they score again. After the goal I got the ball and ran up the side line and passed it to my team mate and he had a shot at the keeper but the keeper saved it.

So they got a sixteen that means that they hit from the top of the semi circle. They decide to run up the side line and took a shot at our goal keeper our goal keeper did a amazing save it went over the post. Next they come running up the side line again but this time it was on my side so I tackled the ball and got it and ran back up the field and take another shot but he saved. Their defender smacked it up the field right to their striker and their striker sails it passed our keeper.

Then the whistle blows for full time and we go shake hands. It was now time to see who got player of the day so we gathered round and the coach said that I was the player of the day. The end of game score was thirteen zero to Avon . My favourite sport is hockey if you played sport when you were younger what was your favourite sport?

3 2 1 run!!

3 2 1 run!!

3 2 1 go!! as we sprinted round the track as fast as we could. We had to run two laps of Walter park so we all sprinted of to the distance all we could here was thump thump thump one minute later I could not here thump thump thump anymore I looked up. It was just me and zack and we were in the lead I started to sprint but he cought up with me.

Our second lap everyone was shouting go Zack and go Benjamin !!! We raced round the track. (we kept swapping round not that we meant to). It was really close right to the finish I went up the hill then down it we beside each we both sprinted to the end and Zack had won only by the size of your foot it was so close. I had come second I was really happy coming second. I love cross country it is awesome
