Sophie Pascoe

Who do you think of when you think of New Zealand, Olympian and swimmer? Probably Sophie Pascoe.  Sophie was born in 1993 in Christchurch, New Zealand.  Sophie Pascoe was named flag bearer for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.  In the 2018 Commonwealth Games she swam 100m Breatstroke and 200 medley.

At the age of two Sophie was involved in a lawnmower accident and had to go to hospital and got her leg amputated.

Sophie learnt how to swim at QEll swim club.  Sadly QEll fell down in the 2011 earthquake so the swim club had to train in many different places until the new QEll complex opened in June 2018.  Her international debut was when she was only thirteen.

Sophie has won four gold medals at the Commonwealth Games nine Paralympic gold medals and is multiple World Champion.  At Rio for her third Paralympic appearance Sophie won five medals and broke a world record while taking her total tally to 15 Paralympic medals.  At the London 2012 Paralympic Games the Christchurch swim sensation bagged three gold and three silver medals.  The following year Pascoe achieved her career highlight with five gold medals at the 2013 IPC swimming world champions.  I think Sophie Pascoe is a good inspiration to all young people to never give up and always do your best.

Well done for participating in the Summer Learning Journey and creating this blog post about Sophie Pascoe!
You have managed to include so much information into this post, some of which I didn’t know. I never knew that Sophie learnt to swim at the QEll swim club, or that she had won so many medals, so thank you for sharing this new information!
You mentioned at the bottom of your post how Sophie Pascoe is a good inspiration, and I completely agree with you on this statement.
Do you have any inspirations/role models that you look up to?
Is there anyone who looks up to you as an inspiration?
    Keep up the excellent work!
    Nga mihi
