PBL invention 2019

Today I am presenting the amazing Jenga mat that forms into a bag.

This term my group was Aidan, Ebony and Zoe, we made the jenga mat that forms into a bag. This is how we made it and who got the materiels. So Zoe got a supermarket bag and I brang a yoga mat, and at school we got some Velcro. They are the only materials you need to use.

Our idea was that we wanted to stop the sound of it crashing down to the ground. Also we thought that it would also be great for the teachers so they do not get headaches.

So then we cut four of the edges and then started sticking some Velcro on. Then we cut the yoga mat so it was the same size as the bag. We decided to fold the bag up to its shape and tested if the cut Yoga mat could fit in the bag. We tested to see if the jenga could fit in the yoga mat that is rolled up in the bag.

Now it is time to see if the jenga mat worked. We started playing jenga then at the same time Aidan Ebony Zoe and I knocked it down. There was no sound at all.

If you had the opportunity to buy this would you?

Field trip to the museum

We went to the museum on Monday the 16 September 2019. First one of the men (Anthony) from the museum told us a story about a Taiga fa who kidnapped a girl because he wanted to marry her. She said no and wanted to go home because she was already married. The tangafi and the woman's husband started fighting. Here is a photo of him telling us the story.

We are now listening to Anthony talk about  Maori gardening tools. The shovels are way different  to what they  are now. It was quite interesting. Did you know that the Maori made baskets from bark? Anthony showed us one of the actual baskets that was stored in the cabinet at the museum.Did you know that back in the olden days the elderly had to try the medicine because they thought they would die first anyway!?

Next we went into the secret classroom that is in the museum. We got to chisel some wood and to use a drill but it was not a real drill. It was one were you had to pull in out to get it to drill a hole. We also got to chop some wood to try make the shape of a canoe and cut some wood out with some Pomona. We also got to smooth  some rocks on a big rock and with water. The  last activity in the classroom  was trying to make smoke and only two people have done that before and no one has ever made fire. Here is a photo of the classroom.
Know it was lunch time we ate our lunch then we got to play in a tree and round the water fountain we tried to climb the highest in the tree and we played other games as well.

Then after that we were aloud to have a look around the museum. we got to play some quizzes they're about animals. we all got a ride on the Antarctic sleigh. also got to look at some of the antarctic animals.

After that we went back to school on the bus. when we got back to school it was time to go home. It was a really fun day.

What would your favorite part be in the museum?

How are rocks made

Rocks, rocks and more rocks. Rocks are everywhere you go, for example on mountains they have
billions of rocks on them. You may be thinking rocks are boring but I am sure you will not once you have
read this. Do you know how old rocks are?  The answer is they are 3.8 billion years old!
Did you know most of earth is covered in rocks? One thing you will find out in this peace is how rocks
are made.

Rocks come in all different shapes and sizes. They can be humongous rocks or tiny rocks that are
called stones. Another type of rock is boulders. Boulders are big rocks that may have fallen down a cliff.
For example at Kaikoura there was an earthquake in 2017. There are heaps of boulders going into
Kaikoura and there are also humongous rocks. There are also rock faces on the way to Kaikoura.

Can you look at a rock and estimate how old it is? Well I'm sure you can’t unless your a Geologist (that is a rock scientist). This is how rocks are made. Lava pours down then in many years they form into rocks. And they will sometimes break from rocks then that's how they form into stones. Did you know you can make awesome stuff out of stones or with stones. I've seen someone on one of the tvs at the Museum this guy made a knife and cut pounamu!.

I now find rocks really interesting now that I have read facts about them. I hope that you have too.

Do you now find rocks interesting?
